Awan ((ウルドゥー語:اعوان), Punjabi Gurmukhi ਆਵਾਨ), is a South Asian Zamindar tribe, living predominantly in northern, central, and western parts of Punjab and Khyber Pukhtunkhwa provinces of Pakistan. Additionally smaller populations live Balochistan, Sindh and Azad Kashmir. The Awans subscribe to the belief that they are the descendants of the fourth Caliph, Ali, and as such, a number adopt the title, ''Alvi''.〔1.
